I am guessing the blurring occured because you were on the water? I tried to get a shot of this also, but ended up getting a rather good one of something else out there. This is really great. Were you in the locks? I’m trying to place you in this shot.
I like the blurring to some extent, but think the fall-off between blur and sharpness may be too extreme. If this looked somewhat smoother in gradation, it might be more pleasing to most. Either way, I still like it.
A fine image of the light house – I do find what you have done with the blurring of objects on the same plane as the subject disconcerting.
I find the picture as intresting as the history arround it. This one is a georgeous image, and the focus works well for me, :)
Beautiful light house. I am also surprised you blurred the pier/walkway.

Thanks for the history lesson!
I was actually on the shore, near the Navy Pier. The blurring is PS, no particular reason other than it felt right to me! :)
Probably due to the blurring and (layer masks?) it almost looks like a toy! Cool!
I think the blurring spoils it a little as it just looks fake. But I think a nice shot. Good composition and all that stuff.
This does look like a toy. I love it! Grosse Point – like the movie!

I love the isolation of the main subject, and framing of this, Jason. It really draws my eye into the lighthouse.
jason- great stuff on your site! Thanks for visiting. I have an almost identical shot to this lighthouse I will be posting in the next few weeks…
